Asbestos Advice

Xenon Technical Services provide consultancy services and advice on asbestos. Including licensed, notifiable and non-notifiable works, analysis of samples, site surveys in buildings and fly-tipped waste.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 came into force in April 2012, yet still asbestos is the biggest worldwide occupational killer. Every week twenty tradesmen (joiners, plumbers and electricians) die of complications resulting from contact with asbestos.

There are two varieties and three ‘colours’ of asbestos: chrysotile – white (hydrophilic) and amosite / grunerite – brown, crocidolite – blue (hydrophobic). These different types are not necessarily distinguishable by colour as they could be mixed with other materials which mask the appearance.

With asbestos there may not be any recognisable warning signs, and there may be undiscovered asbestos in buildings your employees are working in currently. The risk is higher if the construction of the building pre-dates the year 2000. Ask yourself, would you spot an asbestos gasket on an old engine, within cement pipes or recognise a fuse board that contains asbestos?
