    To try and identify the type of cylinder you have on site most cylinders fall under the Manual Handling Regulations 1992 due to their size and weight. Gas cylinders should always be identified by their label in the first instance and then by the colour coding on the shoulder, or curved part of the cylinder. Below is a table of colour classification in order of increasing hazard used since 1997 (European Standards EN1089-3). However due to the number and age of certain cylinders still in circulation this may not apply. Without an affixed label the contents are essentially unknown.
